Mauritania and Senegal will strengthen their coo peration on fishing through mutual visits and meetings, a document made availabl e to PANA said Thursday.
The document is the result of a two-day meeting between experts from both countr ies.
Mauritania has promised to restore to the Senegalese authorities the fishing equ ipment seized for “illegal fishing” in Mauritanian waters and owned by fishermen from Saint-Louis, a city bordering Mauritania. In return, Mauritanian victims of act of vandalism in Saint-Louis will be allowe d to ascertain their rights.
The Nouakchott meeting agreed on keeping the same formula of the former fishing protocol between the two countries and promoted improvements in executing its ma i n parts.
Mauritania will through this protocol, grant Senegal 300 licences for surface bo ats with the obligation to unload 15 per cent of catches in Mauritanian harbours and 10 licenses for tuna fishing. The staff on board will include Mauritanians.
