An agreement has been signed in Tunis between the chairman of Italian Farmers Association CIA, Giuseppe Politi, and the chairman of the Tunisian Union for Agriculture and Fishery (UTAP) Mabrouk Bahri, in order to strengthen the relations between Tunisian and Italian farmers, as well as enhancing cooperation between the two Countries.
The accord is aimed at making the existing relations between the two organizations more dynamic, especially in the field of training, information, and communication. Furthermore, the need has been highlighted for broadening the mutual knowledge as well as exchanging experiences in the field of certification, traceability and food safety.
In the framework of this agreement, a specific Italian-Tunisian Committee has been established gathering representatives of both organizations, in order to work in the olive oil, fruit and vegetables, and potatoes supply chains, so as to enhance trade exchanges and partnership.
It has been also agreed to initiate the identification of the existing credit lines, which are little known among professional institutions and traders, and to encourage other lines to support partnership projects in agriculture and agribusiness.
The agreement also provides for closer coordination in international affairs as well as the start of real Euro-Mediterranean agricultural partnership in the frame of the “Union for the Mediterranean” project.
During his visit to Tunisia, chairman Politi, accompanied by the coordinator of the National Board of CIA Alberto Giombetti, has also met with the Tunisian Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, with representatives from business, banking, agriculture and cooperative sectors. During these meetings they discussed various topics of interest from which the need emerged for increasingly close and fruitful relations between Italian and Tunisian agriculture.
