Around 300,000 people to benefit from 6th phase of working class neighbourhood sanitation programme

The sixth phase of the programme to connect working-class neighbourhoods to the sanitation network will allow new neighbourhoods to be connected and increase the percentage of people in Tunisia who are connected to the network, which currently stands at 90 per cent, according to Environment Minister Leila Chikhaoui.

Responding to a series of sanitation-related points as part of a package of oral questions put by a number of MPs during a session of the Assembly of the People’s Representatives (ARP) on Wednesday evening, Cheikhaoui indicated that Tunisia’s financial partners were also open to the government’s adoption of the tertiary wastewater treatment option.

She pointed out that the sixth phase of the programme to connect working class neighbourhoods to the sanitation network, for which a financial agreement was signed on Tuesday with the French Development Agency (AFD), will allow the connection of 140 new working class neighbourhoods.

Around 300,000 inhabitants will benefit, she added.
