The divorce rate in Tunisia has increased in recent years.
14,000 divorces have been recorded each year, since 2020, an average of 46 per day, lawyer Meriam Louati told Express FM.
This is an alarming indicator that affects the core of the family,” she said, citing a number of reasons for the increase in divorces in Tunisia, including sexual and material problems and a lack of communication between spouses.
The lawyer also explained the measures provided for by Tunisian law on maintenance and the different situations defined by the law (maintenance for the wife and children, visiting rights, custody, etc.).
The Cabinet meeting on the promotion of family cohesion, which met in the Kasbah on Wednesday and was chaired by Prime Minister Kamel Madouri, recommended the introduction of a new system of alimony and divorce and the creation of a “family conciliator” in charge of reconciliation and family mediation.
