Tunisia: 55 women eco-entrepreneurs turn ideas into green, sustainable businesses

Some 55 women eco-entrepreneurs from Greater Tunis, the North-West, the Centre and the South have been equipped to turn their ideas into green, sustainable businesses as part of the SheGreenUp project.

Launched by the Tunisian Association of Women Engineers (ATFI), SheGreenUp is supported by the Decent Work for a Just Transition initiative (Invest for jobs), which is mandated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ.

According to GIZ Tunisia, the project has supported a wide range of projects, from applications in healthy nutrition and agritech solutions to the promotion of ecotourism, through training, coaching and networking.

There are also initiatives to recycle and recover waste, including the processing of old furniture, palm waste, glass, textiles and even X-ray film.

In terms of renewable energy, the program has encouraged the installation of solar charging stations for electric cars and the recovery of biogas.

In addition, SheGreen UP has promoted eco-design through the manufacture of therapeutic toys and molded cellulose packaging, as well as the production of detergents based on natural products, thus contributing to the creation of ecological farms.

The program has shown that Tunisia is full of talented, visionary women ready to turn their ideas into sustainable businesses, contributing to a greener, more prosperous future for all regions of the country.
