The amount of banknotes and coins in circulation exceeded the 23-billion-dinar mark for the first time on Monday, February 24, 2025, reaching 23.066 billion dinars, according to daily data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
This represents an increase of 1.9 billion dinars compared to the level recorded on the same date last year.
It is worth noting that the primary factor contributing to the rise in monetary circulation in recent months is the enactment of the new check law (August 2024) and the removal of the legal limit for holding cash sums and the requirement to justify the origin of funds (October 2024).
