Tunisia: ”Dana Shoes” settles in Kef

Mohamed Lamine Chakhari, Minister of Industry, received Friday, June 15, 2012, a delegation led by Giovanni Cordoni, Director of the Italian Technical Center of Leather Industries (CESECA) and Aldo Chelini, managing director of Italian company “Dana Shoes.”

Mr. Lamine Chakhari said “Our strategy is to support international companies to settle in Tunisia.” He also placed emphasis on the development of high quality products manufactured in Tunisia and the government’s willingness to generalize this approach not only to industry but to all other services including up-market tourism.

Aldo Chelini, managing director of Dana Shoes, established for more than two years in Tunisia, in the industrial area of Mnihla, called on the Tunisian government to further assist Tunisian SMEs in quality certification and continuous training, in collaboration with the national centre of leather and footwear to move from a medium quality of shoes to a premium product.

The Italian investor said his group plans to settle in the Kef region to ensure the expansion of the project despite the international crisis experienced by luxury shoes.

Mr. Giovanni Cordoni expressed the will to establish cooperation between the textile and Fashion Technopole of Monastir and the new center recently established by the Italian Technical Center of Leather Industries.
