Tunisia: Food trade balance shows surplus of 1,404.2 million dinars in 2024

The food trade balance recorded a surplus of 1404.2 million dinars (MD) in 2024, compared to a deficit of 211.4 MD a year earlier, according to data published on Friday by the National Agricultural Observatory (ONAGRI).

The coverage rate thus increased from 97.2% at the end of December 2023 to 119.9% at the end of December 2024.

This result was boosted by a 15.8% rise in exports, mainly due to the increase in olive oil exports (+27.4%) and dates (+20.3%), compared with a 6.1% fall in imports, following the fall in sugar imports (-20.9%) and grain (-16%).

ONAGRI also reported an increase of 29.3% in the average export price of olive oil, to TND 24.51 /kg, and a decrease in the import price of grain products.

Indeed, the price of durum wheat fell by 14.5% and that of common wheat by 17.6%. Similarly, the prices of barley and maize fell by 22.4% and 19.9% respectively.
