Tunisia: fruit exports down (GiFruits)

Fruit exports fell by 49% to 20 thousand tons in volume and 35% to 58 million dinars in value in the first nine months of 2020, according to the latest statistics published by the Interprofessional Fruit Group (GiFruits).

According to these quantitative data, our exports of peaches and watermelons, until the end of September 2020, account for more than 60% of the overall fruit exports, in volume, with quantities exceeding 6 thousand tons for each of these two fruits.

The country’s exports of apricots amounted to 2000 tons, those of plums to 1490 tons and almonds to 964 tons, during the first three quarters of 2020.

As for Tunisia’s main customers, Libya is at the top of the list (11,851 tons), followed by Italy (4,060 tons) and France (1,188 tons).

Exports to Libya decreased by 56% in volume and 53% in value compared to the same period in 2019.

This is the same for exports to Italy (-32%) and France (-59%), in volume.
