The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Fisheries announced on Saturday that it had decided to cancel the prior authorization for the export of olive oil and to invite exporters to apply the provisions of Decree No. 949 for 2019, which complements Decree No. 94-1744 of 1994, which lays down the conditions for exemption from technical control during export.
He added that, following the meeting of the National Olive Council on November 15, 2024, it was also decided to accelerate the rate of export of packaged olive oil with high added value and to set up a marketing program to capture new foreign markets, as well as to increase the participation of Tunisian professionals in international agricultural events.
It will also continue to support industrial olive oil companies through the Fund for the Promotion of Packaged Olive Oil and to promote Tunisian olive oil on the markets of the promotion countries.
Among the decisions announced are the continuation of the National Olive Oil Office’s (ONH) intervention program for the purchase of quantities of olive oil, while working on appropriate measures to enable small producers to benefit from this program, the creation of listening cells and the use of the on-line rapid intervention service on the foreign trade portal.
In this context, the ONH will continue to implement the measures announced on November 9, which concern making its storage capacity available to professionals in its regional centers, launching a programme to finance the storage of olive oil with producers and extending by three months the deadline for the repayment of seasonal loans granted to farmers and oil mill owners.
These measures have been taken for the benefit of farmers and others involved in the olive oil sector, with the aim of ensuring a successful olive harvesting, processing and marketing season.
The aim is to preserve this strategic sector by combating all forms of speculation and monopoly.
