Tunisia: More than 12,000 public servants have taken early retirement

Adel Dakhlaoui, Central Director of the Caisse Nationale de la Retraite et de la Prévoyance Sociale (CNRPS), in charge of monitoring and controlling social services, spoke on Mosaique FM about the early retirement program for public servants.

He said that this measure has been in place since 2022 and has begun to be applied, with renewal based on an annual assessment.

Dakhlaoui also affirmed that this measure aims to reduce the wage bill, specifying that the program excludes non-administrative public institutions such as STEG and SONEDE, as well as local authorities and constitutional institutions.

He pointed out that 12,646 civil servants had benefited from this pension under this measure, by the end of December 2024, out of a total of 18,696 applications, i.e. an acceptance rate of 67%.

To be eligible for early retirement, civil servants must have reached the age of 57 and have completed the minimum period of service required for a retirement pension, i.e. 15 years.

The employer bears the cost of the pension and the required social security contributions for the period between the date of retirement and the date on which the employee reaches the statutory retirement age.
