‘The signal to start work of the new Bizerte bridge project was given by the Tunisian government in mid-July 2024. The whole project will take a total of 1,140 days and will be completed on September 2, 2027’.

This was reported by Chen Junfeng, deputy general manager of the Tunisian branch of SRBG, the Chinese company in charge of the new Bizerte bridge project (video) in a statement to Chinese news agency Xinhua

Hermann Rosario Sakponou, who obtained his PhD in China, is a geotechnical engineer who has been in Tunisia for about six months after being recruited by SRBG for the construction of this long 2.07-kilometre viaduct.

He told Xinhua that this project “will be one of the most outstanding on the continent” in terms of the technology used and the peculiarity of being able to connect two banks of a canal through which ships pass.
