In its report “Trade Facilitation Indicators: Monitoring Policies up to 2025”, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has ranked the top ten trade facilitation reformers and performers in each region of the world.
Tunisia is among the top 10 reformers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2024. It ranks fourth, with an average trade facilitation performance of almost 5% between 2022 and 2024.
According to the report, this ranking highlights the reforms and progress made in trade facilitation.
However, there are still performance gaps within the region in certain areas, notably in advance rulings, cross-border agency cooperation and trade process automation, which remain major challenges for several countries.
The leading reformer in trade and trade facilitation in the MENA region is Jordan, with a rate of almost 10%.
It is followed by Kuwait with a rate of around 8% and Qatar with almost 6%. These three countries are ahead of Tunisia in the OECD rankings.
In fifth place is the United Arab Emirates with a rate of over 4%, followed by Saudi Arabia with over 3%.
Oman has a rate of less than 2%, while Egypt and Morocco complete the top 10 with rates of just over 1%.
The report also points out that the ranking of the best performing countries in 2024 has changed slightly, although the main players remain the same.
These include Oman, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Bahrain, Egypt and Jordan.
