Tunisia: State cuts subsidy spending by 30% in Q1

Government operating expenditure amounted to 1.55 billion dinars (-12%) At the end of the first three months of the current year, of which 673 million dinars were allocated to the General Compensation Fund.

This budget for subsidy shows a decrease of 281 million dinars, or -30%, compared to that recorded for the first quarter of 2020.

In detail, 449 million dinars were allocated to the subsidy of commodities (+95%), 100 million for fuels (-81%) and 124 million under the transport (-33%).

In this regard, the subsidy of commodities represents 66.7% of the overall amount of compensation in the first quarter, compared to 18.4% for transport and 14.9% for fuels.

The State plans in its 2021 finance law to allocate a budget of 3.1 billion dinars under subsidy for this year, against 4.5 billion dinars spent in 2020 and 4.8 billion in 2019.
