In the third quarter of the current year, the number of unemployed in Tunisia is estimated at 667,200, compared with 661,700 in the second quarter.
As a result, the unemployment rate remained stable at 16%, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
By gender, the unemployment rate for men fell to 13.3% (13.6% in the second quarter), while for women it rose to 22.1% (21.3% in the previous quarter).
The unemployment rate for young people aged 15-24 dropped slightly to 40.5% in the third quarter of 2024, compared with 41.0% in the second quarter of the same year. This rate is 39.0% for men and 43.3% for women.
The unemployment rate for tertiary educated persons increased to 25.0% in the third quarter compared to 23.0% in the second quarter. This rate was 17.0% for men and 31.6% for women.
The number of persons in employment rose to 4.179 million in the third quarter of 2024, compared with 4.146 million in the second quarter of the same year, an increase of 33 thousand persons.
The labor force is made up of 2.894 million men and 1.284 million women, representing 69.3% and 30.7% of the total respectively. This increase in the labor force in the third quarter of 2024 corresponds to a rise of 0.2 percentage points in the activity rate, which reached 46.2% of the active population (aged 15 and over), compared to 46.0% in the previous quarter.
