Algeria imported, during the period January-October 2008, 223 131 vehicles for a value of 2,628 billion dollars, against 180 872 vehicles for 2,28 billion dollars during the same period the previous year. According to customs statistics, 204 474 vehicles have been introduced by the representatives for a value of 2.247 billion dollars, against 166 994 units for 1.993 billion dollars during the same period in 2007, an increase of 22,44 %,
The vehicles bought by individuals followed the same upward trend increasing from 18 657 units for an amount of 363.843 billion dollars, against 13 878 units for 283.476 billion dollars, an increase of 34.44%. During these nine months, the record score was realised by the South-Korean Hyundai. Their representative in Algeria realised a growth of 90 % for the number of vehicles imported into Algeria during this period, reaching 39 157 units for an amount of 282.163 million dollars, against 20 604 units for 195.840 million dollars during the same period the previous year. But in terms of value, the gold palm goes to the Japanese Toyota who ranks first with an amount of 391.737 million dollars for 28 894 imported vehicles, against 22 087 vehicles for 318.679 million dollars during the same period in 2007. At the end of the first nine months of 2008, the Algerian automobile market was also beneficial to other Asian brands such as the South-Korean Kia Motors and the Japanese Nissan which realised respective sales of 10 650 and 10 078 units, for amounts of 100.326 and 143 million dollars.
