Benin: Germany to invest 46 billion CFAF in Benin

Germany invest some 70 million Euros or 46 billion CFAF in Benin for the period 2014-2016, official sources told PANA here Saturday.

The investment will be in the areas of three priority projects under the German cooperation with Benin, particularly in the integrated management of water resources, the supply of potable water and sanitation, decentralization and communal development and agriculture, the macro-economic support and basic education.

A non-repayable additional aid for 30 million Euros or 19.7 billion CFAF, will also be granted by Germany to Benin within the framework of the implementation of programmes in the sector of water and decentralization, within the global framework of the 18th session of inter-governmental negotiations held in September 2013.

The new commitments take to 900 million Euros or about 600 billion CFAF, the overall volume of financial investment from Germany to Benin since the country’s independence.

Benin is one of the main beneficiaries of the German cooperation (EZ), thanks to its political decision in 1990 to move towards a liberal democracy.
