The visit of Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy
and Enlargement Negotiations to Tunisia was marked by the signing of five financing agreements
“The signing of a total amount of EUR 63 million is a signal of the strong support that the European Union wishes to provide to Tunisia,” said Johannes Hahn after his meeting with Prime Minister Habib Essid, noting that “the European Union wants to further increase its financial support in 2015”. “We have supported Tunisia throughout the transition period by doubling our financial support.”
The five financing agreements signed for a total amount of € 63 million relate to the reform of justice (€ 15 million), strengthening the audiovisual media sector (€ 10 million), promotion of gender equality (€ 7 million), development of neighborhoods (€ 28 million), border management and international protection of migrants (€ 3 million).
With this signing, these five programs can start quickly, enabling the Tunisian government to initiate ambitious reforms in line with the provisions of the new Tunisian Constitution.
