Tunisia: Cumulative external debt service at end-September almost 11 bn euro

Tunisia’s cumulative external debt service (made up of principal and interest repayments) amounted to the equivalent of 10,920 million dinars, at the end of September 2024, according to figures from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

This amount honored by Tunisia during the first nine months of the current year exceeds by 67% that to be repaid during the whole year 2023 (6,553 million dinars).

Compared with the end of September last year, the external debt service increased by 40%, i.e. + 3.164 million dinars.

This evolution is the result of the repayment by Tunisia of the largest maturity of its external debt for the year 2024, namely the Eurobond contracted on the international financial market in 2017 for €850 million, repaid on February 17, 2024.

It should be noted that October 2024 is busy for the Tunisian state with repayments of 1.3 billion dinars of accumulated amortizations of public external debt.
