Tunisia: Informal employment accounts for 36% of labor market

Among the key findings of a Tunisian study on the subject by the Observatory of Employment, the rate of informal employment in Tunisia stands at 36% of the labor market, broken down into 39% among men and 27% among women.

The rate of informal employment varies by professional status, reaching around 70% among the self-employed and 26% among salaried workers. The agriculture, construction, public works, trade, and social services sectors account for 80% of all workers employed in the informal sector.

Informal employment is estimated at 52% among young people (under 30 years of age). In addition, 83% of those working in the informal sector have no school or professional qualifications.
