Tunisia: BIAT posts 3.5% rise in NBI to TND 398.5 million in Q1 2026

Banque Internationale Arabe de Tunisie (BIAT) has reported a solid performance for the first quarter of 2026, with Net Banking Income (NBI) reaching 398.5 million dinars, marking a 3.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The result reflects a diversified revenue structure. Income from the bank’s securities portfolio and financial operations emerged as the main driver, totaling 202.2 million dinars and accounting for more than half (50.7%) of overall NBI.

Net interest income stood at 127.8 million dinars, or 32.1% of NBI, while fees and commissions generated 68.6 million dinars, representing 17.2% of net banking revenues.

The first quarter of 2026 saw a sharp rise in customer deposits. Total outstanding deposits reached 22,391 million dinars, posting significant growth of 10.1%.

Savings deposits led the increase, jumping 12.9%, while demand deposits rose 5.2%. According to the bank, the trend underscores continued customer confidence in the institution.

On lending side, net loans to the economy edged up 0.5% to 12,902 million dinars.

Operating expenses rose 6% to 183.2 million dinars, mainly driven by higher staff costs. Despite this, BIAT maintained operational efficiency with a cost-to-income ratio of 46%.

On the balance sheet, the bank reported solid fundamentals, with shareholders’ equity standing at 2,368 million dinars as of March 31, 2026.

The bank also continued to strengthen its investment strategy, with its investment securities portfolio reaching 7,505 million dinars.
