President Kais Saied said as he met Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani in the Kasbah on Monday evening that the disruptions in the administration are “abnormal”.
«There are pockets of regression within the administration whose time has passed, in addition to falling into the arms of lobbies,” according to a video of the visit released by the Presidency of the Republic on Tuesday morning.
Saied stressed that «cutting off electricity and water in a number of areas is a criminal act», adding that the electoral campaigns of some «are criminal campaigns to undermine the state and civil peace in the country».
He criticised the inaction of local and regional officials, saying “we do not need regional officials who are unaware of the water and electricity cuts in a number of regions”, and questioned the coincidence of these cuts with the start of election campaigns for some.
These people can only live in the arms of colonialism and foreign circles” and are “in a state of alienation, disorientation and unconsciousness”.
In the same context, President Saied spoke of the promises made by some, whom he did not name, and said of them: “There are those who make false promises and their only concern is to reach power, even if it is on the bodies of Tunisians.»
In his conversation with Ahmed Hachani, President Saied also talked about the executive function and the government that helps the President of the Republic carry out this function, pointing out that the members of the government should be aware of this matter.
On the other hand, the Head of state criticised the previous constitution (the 2014 constitution), saying that “the 2014 constitution blew up the Tunisian state under a Zionist agreement to destroy countries from within”.
He added that some of those who are nostalgic for this constitution opposed it in 2013 and organised a sit-in against it, and today they want it back with the support of lobbies whose leaders “should not remain beyond legal accountability and speedy trial”.
He also said there was “a machine that has started working to undermine the state and the peace within it, but we will not leave the state because it is not for sale or rent”. “Those who have committed crimes against the state must be brought to justice as soon as possible and the law must be applied to criminals.”
