The Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) is holding the Careers and Vocational Training Fair held on November 7, 8 and 9 November 2024 at the headquarters of the employers’ organization.
This event is supported by the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) in close cooperation with the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training.
It will be an important platform for getting to know the needs of employers
in different fields and sectors of economic activity. The event also aims to inspire young people to have confidence in their abilities and to nurture their ambitions to achieve their future career goals. Most importantly, participants will be able to make valuable contacts and explore the training opportunities available to them.
Speaking at the event, Rached Chelly, a member of UTICA’s Executive Committee and President of the National Chamber of Private Vocational Training Organizations, said that the organization of this event was very important, especially for young Tunisians.
He added that the private training sector offers many jobs for young people in various sectors with high added value.
He assured participants that the day would provide an opportunity to discuss the means and procedures to be implemented to improve the national vocational training system, which is due to undergo a far-reaching reform to improve its performance and enable businesses to derive greater benefit from vocational training.
A number of young people interviewed by Africanmanager said that they had come to the fair to take advantage of the opportunity to discover a variety of training centers, both public and private, that match the qualifications and skills they wish to acquire.
The aim of this fair is to promote vocational training as a path to success and excellence, and to give young students and anyone else who wants to find out about the opportunities available in the field of vocational training for all specializations and economic sectors, especially those with high potential and employability prospects, whether in the national or international labor market,” they said.
Graduate employment rate rises to 80%
Tunisia has always given high priority to the vocational training sector, which has been expanding at a more or less rapid pace for several years. In this respect, the in-depth reform of the vocational training system remains a key factor in facilitating the integration of young Tunisians into the labor market and creating more jobs for unemployed young people.
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment, Tunisia has 136 public vocational training centers with a capacity of 90,000 young people and 270 specializations. The private sector has 3,000 centers with 40,000 trainees.
Vocational training is a path to success and excellence, and a promising pillar for employment, as the employment rate of its graduates exceeds 80% in many fields.
Since 1996, the vocational training sector has been undergoing a major reform, known as the National Program for Vocational Training and Employment. The aim of this program is to make the system efficient and responsive to business needs by improving the employability of new entrants and adapting skills to technological developments.
It is based on the generalization of sandwich training, a competence-based approach to teaching and the strengthening of links with enterprises through the involvement of professional sectors.
