Industry, Mines and Energy Minister Fatma Thabet Chiboub on Thursday chaired the steering committee for the Global Textile and Clothing Programme (GTEX-Menatex), which is one of the fundamental pillars of the national economy.
The programme aims to provide technical support to national industrial companies operating in the sector, so that they can embark on the path of ecological and energy transition and the circular economy, in order to enhance their competitiveness and conquer new markets, according to a press release issued by the Industry Department.
The programme also aims to improve the economic framework and its integration into global value chains, as well as improving management, reducing costs, boosting marketing and creating new jobs, notably for young graduates.
Funded by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of the Swiss Confederation and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the programme, which runs from 2024 to 2027, has been implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) with an investment worth $2 million (the equivalent of TND 6.2 million).
The first phase of this programme was carried out during the period 2018-2023 and included the organisation of 32 training sessions for 450 participants working in the sector’s various support structures.
