President of the Republic visits municipal equipment facilities, urges officials to end failures and shortcomings

President Kais Saied visited, on Thursday afternoon, the equipment and cleanliness departments of the Tunis Municipality, where he took note of several failures and shortcomings at the level of the two departments and their equipment, which is not maintained or has been out of order for many years.

The Head of State then met with a number of officials at Tunis Town Hall and urged them to shoulder their responsibilities, quickly remedy the situation and redouble efforts to meet the needs of citizens, according to a statement from the Presidency.

During the meeting, the President of the Republic stressed that the situation cannot continue like this, be it in the removal of waste, the provision of services to citizens, public lighting, the maintenance of cemeteries and the upkeep of parks and green areas.

“Most of them have become dumping grounds for waste, and even some municipal warehouses have been neglected and some have fallen into disrepair,” the same statement said.

The President of the Republic also visited the Department of Health and Environmental Protection of the Tunis Municipality and the adjacent municipal park, where he saw the shortcomings of this place, which used to be a sports and recreation area but “unfortunately has become a place without recreation or sports”.

The President of the Republic concluded by saying that the state needs to carry out a comprehensive review of many of its institutions and bring to justice as soon as possible all those who have committed crimes against the Tunisian people.

“In addition to the fact that corruption has been systematic in order to dispose of state property, there are still those within state institutions who disrupt the functioning of state institutions and even try to harass citizens and are linked to lobbies,” the statement also quoted the Head of State as stressing.
