Security situation on western borders stable, migrants’ flow under control (Brigadier General)

The security situation on the western borders is stable. However, caution and vigilance remain essential, said Brigadier General Mohamed Sebri, commander of the 14th Mechanised Infantry Regiment in Kef on Thursday.

Speaking during a field visit to the regiment organised by the Ministry of Defence for journalists, Sebri stressed that coordination with various stakeholders continues to mitigate potential threats.

Regarding the phenomenon of irregular migration and the flow of sub-Saharan Africans across the land borders, Brigadier General Sebri assured that the situation is under control.

“We have the phenomenon of migrant flows under control – not 100%, but there is a continuous effort and coordination with the Ministry of Interior. We can confirm that the numbers are constantly decreasing,” he said.

Regarding the joint efforts of the various stakeholders, the senior military officer stressed that coordination with the Ministry of Interior includes real-time information exchange, joint operations and training to carry out real missions.

A coordination mechanism based on information sharing has also been established with the Algerian authorities, he added.

The 14th Mechanised Infantry Regiment is responsible for securing the land borders and combating terrorism in its “sector of responsibility”, which extends from Jendouba in the north to Kasserine in the south, Siliana in the east and the Algerian border in the west.
