Tunisia: AMEN BANK officially joins EU “ADAPT” program

Continuing their commitment to sustainable agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries in Tunisia, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and AMEN BANK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding defining the objectives, contributions and responsibilities of each party within the ADAPT program.

This partnership aims to strengthen sustainable practices and green economic development by providing innovative and accessible financing solutions to stakeholders in targeted sectors.

The ADAPT program, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP), launched the second phase of the ADAPT Invest Support Fund on March 18, 2024.

With an initial support fund of €25 million, this program will encourage and support private investments committed to the sustainable development of the agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries sectors in Tunisia, thereby supporting a greener and more inclusive economy.

Recognizing the importance of financial institutions in providing access to the finance needed for these investments, the program seeks strategic partnerships with Tunisian banks.

In this context, a ceremony was held at the headquarters of AMEN BANK in the presence of  Neji Ghandri, Chairman of the Bank’s Board of Directors, and Andrea Senatori, Director of AICS Tunis, who signed the Memorandum of Understanding and officially announced the strategic partnership between the two institutions as part of the ADAPT program.

Néji Ghandri stated that AMEN BANK is positioning itself as a key player in the promotion of the green economy and sustainable development, promoting initiatives that respond to environmental challenges while stimulating economic growth and the well-being of communities.

He added that by integrating sustainable practices into its operations and supporting environmentally responsible projects, AMEN BANK is actively contributing to the transition towards a more environmentally friendly economic model.

Andrea Senatori, Director of AICS Tunis, said: “The Memorandum of Understanding signed with Amen Bank is important for the implementation of the ADAPT program in Tunisia.

By working with a leading financial institution, we are improving access to finance for sustainable projects,” said Andrea Senatori, Director of AICS Tunis.

He added: “This initiative strengthens our ability to support private investments that address environmental challenges while promoting the country’s economic and social development.

The strategic partnership with AMEN BANK is crucial for ADAPT. As a leading financial institution in Tunisia, AMEN BANK plays an important role in the implementation of the program by facilitating access to finance for actors in the targeted sectors.

This partnership not only strengthens the bank’s institutional capacity, but also extends the program’s impact throughout the bank’s network, making a significant contribution to Tunisia’s sustainable and green development.
