Tunisia: UTICA warns against losses suffered by economy

The Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) expresses deep outrage at the continuing wave of strikes and sit-ins that have affected the national economy and threatening, more than ever, to paralyze the economy and cause the shutdown of domestic and foreign investment, especially after the decision to close the plant of of Yazaki Group in Om Larayes, which employs over 500 employees, knowing that the group was planning, a first step, to recruit 10,000 people , in the coming years in Gafsa and Om Larayes.

The employers’ organization said that this decision reflects the seriousness of the situation marked by the intention of over 150 foreign companies to leave the country, and that others will do the same such as global company “British Gas”, and major national companies such as the Tunisian Chemical Group, in addition to the cessation of activities in many industrial areas and seaports.

UTICA calls on all stakeholders to assume their responsibilities towards the continued bleeding of the Tunisian economy and barriers to business operations, as the situation is expected to deteriorate further causing incalculable consequences.
