Tunisia has emerged as one of the top three importers of Russian grain, alongside Egypt and Algeria, according to Arkady Zlochevsky, President of the Russian Grain Union.
In an interview with Sputnik, Zlochevsky highlighted Africa’s growing importance as a key market for Russian agricultural products, particularly grain.
During the last fiscal year, Africa has seen a significant expansion in its geographic reach for Russian agricultural exports.
Looking ahead, Russia is planning to simplify trade settlements with its African partners, including Tunisia, by introducing payment systems in national currencies, such as the ruble.
“Russia intends to develop a system for payments in national currencies with numerous African nations shortly,” Zlochevsky stated, signaling a strategic move to strengthen economic ties and streamline trade processes between Russia and its African counterparts.
This shift to local currency payments is expected to facilitate smoother transactions and reduce reliance on traditional global currencies.
