According to the draft law authorizing the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) to grant facilities to the General Treasury of Tunisia, the issuing institution will be called upon to exceptionally finance the budget deficit for the year 2024 to the tune of TND 7 billion.
This facility will be repaid over a period of 10 years, with a 3-year grace period and without interest.
The Ministry of Finance justified this measure by pointing to the growing financial pressure on the state budget due to the ongoing global economic crisis and the state’s difficulties in mobilizing external resources.
The bill stresses that an agreement will be signed between the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
