Tunisia: Current account deficit continues to shrink in H1 to 2,388 million dinars

At its meeting on July 31, the Executive Board of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) noted that the current account deficit continued to narrow in the first half of 2024 to 2,388 million dinars (or 1.4% of GDP), compared with 3,164 million dinars (or 2% of GDP) in the previous year.

This improvement, explains the BCT, is mainly due to the narrowing of the trade deficit (FOB-CAF) by 7.7% to 8,017 million dinars, despite the deterioration of the energy balance, which showed a deficit of 5,794 million dinars at the end of the first six months of the current year.

At the same time, tourism receipts and workers’ remittances rose by 6.6% and 7.2% respectively, according to the BCT.
