Remittances from Tunisians living abroad rose by 4.6% in the period to December 10, 2024 compared with the same period last year, according to the latest monetary and financial indicators published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
Up to 10 December, remittances totaled 7,607.8 million dinars (MD), exceeding tourism receipts, which rose by 7.2% to 7,050 MD.
Expat remittances and tourism receipts have thus contributed to covering the external debt service for the current year, which (debt service) is estimated at around 13,483.1 MD.
Similarly, external debt servicing has contributed to the strengthening of foreign exchange reserves, which have reached 113 days of imports, or the equivalent of 25,171.1 MD, according to the BCT.
the Tunisian dinar had appreciated by 1.94% against the euro, on December 19, with the exchange rate for one euro currently estimated at 3.31 dinars.
The local currency has depreciated slightly against the dollar, with the exchange rate for one dollar currently estimated at 3.182 dinars.
