The contract financing a collaborative project was signed this Thursday by the Office of Development of the South [ODS] and the interprofessional group of fisheries products [GIPP].
It aims to contribute to the development of the fisheries sector in the governorate of Medenine.
A grant of more than 1.6 million Dinars financed by the European Union has been granted for the implementation of this project to:
– Improve dialogue and multi-stakeholder collaboration in the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the governorate of Medenine to promote the sustainable management of fisheries resources.
– To contribute to the improvement of the quality and upgrading of artisanal fishing boats in accordance with the sustainable management measures applicable to each fishery.
– To diversify the valorization of fishery products and to strengthen the capacities of the actors in terms of technical mastery, access to markets and compliance with sustainable management measures applicable to fisheries.
The platform of public-private dialogue, initiated by the Irada Program in the region, has identified the fisheries sector as a priority sector given its potential and its economic importance at the regional and even national level (the Medenine region represents more than 16% of national production of fisheries products).
A study to develop an action plan for the development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the governorate of Medenine has been conducted and validated by private and public actors.
