Tunisia: fisheries production down 3% in 2015

Fisheries production declined 3% to about 113 thousand tons in 2015 against 116 thousand tons in 2014, according to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture.

This decrease is explained by the 3% decline in the production of blue fish and that of

aquaculture products which fell by 2,000 tons in 2015.

However, Tunisian exports of fishery products have increased by 8% in value in 2015 to reach nearly 285 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) against 256 MTD in 2014. Tunisia has yet exported less fishery products in 2015, i.e. 18,000 tons against 18,600 tons in 2014.

The same statistics show that imports were down 31% in volume and 12% in value.

The quantities imported are estimated at 24,000 tons worth 102 MTD in 2015 against 35,000 tons worth 116 MTD in 2014.

Thus, the trade balance for fisheries products was in surplus of 183 MTD in 2015, against 149 MTD during the same period of 2014.
