The population and housing census in Tunisia reached 86.5% completion on Saturday, December 14, 2024, after collecting data from more than 2.8 million households over the past 37 days, according to Abdelkader Talhaoui, technical director of the census at the National Statistics Institute.
He told Mosaïque FM that 8,80,000 agents have been collecting information and data on Tunisian households since November 6.
Around 14% of Tunisian households will have completed their data collection by the end of this month, he said, noting that the agents have not yet been able to contact these households at home.
Talhaoui also said that the end of this month of December will mark the end of the field work for the census, so that the INS can focus on the counting phase, which will allow the quality of the data collected to be assessed, and the first wave of the census will be announced at the end of March 2025.
It will include the total number of people on Tunisian soil, the distribution of the population according to age groups and demographic characteristics, and their distribution among administrative units in town halls and governorates.
The technical director of the census added that the rest of the form’s data, including education, health, housing, the labor market and others, will be announced at the end of September 2025.
