Tunisia ranks among top 5 African countries for Digital Quality of Life

As technology becomes a key factor in quality of life, access to the internet and digital services has become a fundamental aspect of daily living. This “digital quality of life” is now an essential criterion for evaluating citizens’ well-being.

In this context, Surfshark, a British company renowned for its expertise in cybersecurity, has released its Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index for 2024.

The index evaluates 121 countries worldwide based on five fundamental criteria that reflect the ease of access and security of digital services.

In 2024, Tunisia ranks 82nd out of 121 countries globally in the DQL Index and secures the 5th position in Africa, placing it behind some of its regional neighbors.

The African ranking is led by South Africa (66th), followed by Morocco (69th), Mauritius (77th), Egypt (79th), and Tunisia.

Other African countries in the top 10 include Ghana (88th), Kenya (89th), Angola (91st), Senegal (93rd), and Côte d’Ivoire (94th).

These countries stand out for their digital infrastructure, better internet access, and stronger online security compared to other nations in the region.

Meanwhile, Europe continues to lead globally in digital quality of life. The top 10 countries in the DQL Index are all European, with Germany, Finland, France, the Netherlands, and Denmark occupying the top spots.

It is worth noting that the DQL Index is based on 14 specific indicators, providing a detailed overview of a country’s overall digital well-being. These indicators include the affordability of internet access, the quality of digital infrastructure, online security, and the effectiveness of e-government services.
