Tunisia: Social tensions and strike notices at CPG?

Yahya Lakhal, Secretary General of the Gafsa Mining Union, has said that the current social crisis at the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) reflects the social tensions within the company.

Speaking to Express FM on Monday, he added that the meeting held on December 11 between CPG management and trade union representatives was “a failure”, saying that management had not accepted the workers’ demands, hence the series of wildcat strikes that began the following day.

On December 13, the Gafsa Mining Union issued a strike notice for December 25 and 26.

According to Yahya Lakhal, CPG workers are demanding the application of the base statutes, unpaid productivity bonuses, a wage increase, access to social loans and the provision of necessary equipment.
