Two socio-economic cooperation agreements were signed in Tunis on Thursday between the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) and the Algerian Power and Gas Company (SONELGAZ).
According to the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, the aim of the agreements is to strengthen cooperation and exchange knowledge and technical expertise in order to promote the exchange of electricity and the implementation of energy projects in the two countries.
The agreements were signed during a meeting at the ministry’s headquarters between Industry Minister Fatma Thabet and SONELGAZ Chairman and CEO Mourad Adjal, who is currently visiting Tunisia at the invitation of STEG. This visit is part of the follow-up to the tripartite meeting between STEG, SONELGAZ and GECOL (General Electricity Company of Libya).
On this occasion, the Minister and the CEO of SONELGAZ examined ways of strengthening the electricity network between Tunisia, Algeria and Libya in order to meet energy challenges, cope with peak consumption in the summer and relieve pressure on transmission and distribution networks.
