Tunisia: Tourism revenues up 8.3% to 7.5 billion dinars in 2024

Tourism revenues reached 7.5 billion dinars in 2024, an increase of 8.3% compared to 2023, according to monetary and financial indicators published on Tuesday by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

Minister of Tourism, Sofiane Tekaya, announced at the end of November that the tourism sector had recorded record figures for 2024, adding that “the number of visitors to Tunisia should exceed 10 million by the end of the year”.

Cumulative workers’ remittances, for their part, recorded an increase of 6.1%, rising from 7.6 billion dinars at the end of December 2023 to 8.1 billion dinars at 31 December 2024, according to the issuing institution, while net foreign exchange reserves rose to 27.3 billion dinars (equivalent to 122 days of imports) at January 6, 2025, compared with 26.6 billion dinars (121 days of imports) a year earlier.

Cumulative external debt service edged up by 22% to 14.3 billion dinars in 2024, while the BCT reported a 21.7% decline in the total volume of refinancing, from 15.6 billion dinars on January 6, 2024 to 12.2 billion dinars at present.
