World Bank’s Ousmane Dione to visit Tunisia, June 23-25

World Bank’s recently appointed Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region Ousmane Dione will visit Tunisia on June 23-25.

Dione will discuss during this visit the country’s development priorities and reiterate the WB’s commitment to support Tunisia’s most vulnerable population and accelerate inclusive and resilient growth, reads a WB press release published Friday. This is Dione’s first trip to Tunisia since taking up his post as Vice-President of the MENA region last April 16.

The official will also meet with senior government officials to discuss the WB’s ongoing support to Tunisia, including in the areas of energy transition, water management, and human capital, as part of an effective, inclusive, and transparent development process. He will also visit World Bank-supported projects.

Dione will be accompanied by WB’s Country Director for the Maghreb and Malta Jesko Hentschel, and Country Manager for Tunisia Alexandre Arrobbio.

The World Bank currently finances 16 projects in Tunisia, amounting to nearly US$3.3 billion (TND 10.2 billion). These projects address priority development challenges, poverty reduction, social inclusion, and the impacts of climate change on the country’s economy.
