Zaghouan cable car station: Investor willing to spend 10 billion dinars

A group of Tunisian and foreign tourism investors has submitted a proposal to build a cable car station in the governorate of Zaghouan, at an investment cost of around 10 billion dinars.

In an interview with African Manager, Governor of Zaghouan, Mohamed Elleuch, pointed out that the preliminary study presented by the investor included the construction of 3 cable car lines, a tourist zone and an opera house.

He noted that the proposal had been sent to the Ministries of Tourism, the Economy and Foreign Affairs, as well as to the various parties concerned, in order to verify the accuracy of the data contained in the file.

In fact, the sources of financing amount to 3 billion dollars, and the Governor described the proposal currently before the State as “serious.” Indeed, the investor, who has expressed interest in carrying out the project, has already completed similar projects in more than one Arab country, such as cable cars in Iraq and tourist areas in Egypt.

The aim of this government project is to promote domestic, alternative and eco-tourism in regions that have unfortunately been neglected, despite their ecological assets and innovative visibility.

“We are waiting for the government’s official position on the matter so that the investor can start a second phase of in-depth study,” he said, expressing hope that the project will see the light of day in the next few years, marking a qualitative leap for the region.

Elleuch added that Zaghouan has all the makings of a tourist attraction, boasting historical archaeological sites that are full of alternative, ecological, environmental and cultural tourism components.

Significant growth in investment

With regard to the industrial sector, the Governor pointed out that there has been a significant increase in the volume of investment in recent years, with around 300 industrial units, 120 of which are exclusively for export, providing 25,000 jobs in 11 industrial estates.

In the same context, he pointed out that the region’s industrial zones have attracted many types of industry with national and international appeal, such as the manufacture of crystal and building materials from cement and iron, the pharmaceutical industry, the food industry and the pharmaceutical industry. The Swedish company “AutolivTunisia” is one of the leaders in the sector, thanks to its advanced technical profile and modern equipment, making it one of the suppliers of the biggest car brands such as “Mercedes” and “Porsche”… The steering wheel is 100% Tunisian.

Agricultural project worth 150 million dinars

With regard to the agricultural sector, the governor announced that the project for the development and promotion of agricultural systems in the Zaghouan governorate, financed by the African Development Bank to the tune of over 150 million dinars, has reached a 14% progress rate.

An irrigated perimeter has been created in the Fahs delegation with funding estimated at 3.5 million dinars, he said, and work is continuing and will be completed shortly, adding that most of it has been irrigated in anticipation of the rainy season at a cost of 2.2 million dinars.

In addition to the inclusion of Zaghouan in the list of governorates affected by the drought that damaged crops and fruit trees during the 2021-2022 season, which will allow farmers to repay their debts, the governorate of Zaghouan is currently studying new mechanisms to provide further support to farmers.
