Tunisia has occupied the 8th position with a score of 66.9 out of 100 in the latest Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) conducted among 54 countries, according to the report published this week by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.
Tunisia, which is far behind Mauritius (1st position), has, however, made an improvement of 2.6
compared to 2011, allowing it to leapfrog North African countries, including Morocco which was ranked 16th (57.6), Algeria in 20th position (52.9) and Egypt in 24th position (51.3).
The latest Ibrahim Index of African Governance reveals that:” improvement in overall governance in Africa over the past ten years has been held back by a widespread deterioration in the category of Safety & Rule of Law,” which has improved by one score point at the continental average level.
The tenth edition of the IIAG, the most comprehensive analysis of African governance undertaken to date, brings together a decade of data to assess each of Africa’s 54 countries against 95 indicators drawn from 34 independent sources.
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation was established in 2006 with a focus on the critical importance of leadership and governance in Africa.
