Tunisia: Health ministry working on new law to regulate internet sales of medicines

Secretary General of the National Council of the Order of Pharmacists, Thouraya Naifer, denounced on Mosaique FM, the phenomenon of the sale of food supplements and herbal remedies on the Internet, warning of the dangers it poses to the health of citizens.

She explained that the Ministry of Health is currently working on a law to regulate the manufacture and sale of these products in response to the alarming spread of this phenomenon.

She pointed out that the sale of dietary supplements over the Internet had increased sharply since the announcement of the draft law, reaching fraudulent levels, particularly in the case of medicines purportedly made from plants and claiming to cure several diseases at once.

She called for the law to be speeded up and for the online marketing of these products to be regulated.

She also urged the public not to put their health at risk and to consult their pharmacist before buying any supplements.
