Tunisia: FTAV president reports sharp drop in sales due to new cheque law!

There had been a sharp drop in sales in travel agencies as a result of the new law on cheques, president of the Tunisian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (FTAV), Ahmed Bettaïeb, told MosaiqueFM on Monday.

He pointed out that the decline in travel agency sales varies between 20% and 30%, noting that several sectors are now operating on a cash basis, which he described as “unacceptable”.

He therefore stressed the need to find alternative payment solutions to help consumers and support commercial transactions.

He also highlighted the lack of alternative means of payment for cheques and called for mechanisms to be put in place through banks or finance companies to offer payment facilities to customers.
