The trade balance of fishery products recorded a surplus of 59.9 million dinars (MD) at the end of May 2025. This surplus is down by 67.5% compared to that recorded in May 2024 (184.4 MD), according to data from the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI), published on Monday.
Exports of fishery products amounted to 11.4 thousand tons, valued at 267.3 MD in May 2025, representing a decline of 19.7% in quantity and 21.2% in value compared to the same month in 2024.
ONAGRI also reported a 2% decrease in export prices, reaching TND 23.4 /Kg compared to May 2024 (TND 23.9 /Kg).
The most exported species are fish (5.2 thousand tons), canned and semi-canned products (2.9 thousand tons), and crustaceans (2.7 thousand tons).
Tunisian exports of fishery products are distributed across more than 27 destinations. Italy is the top importer (31%), followed by Spain (14%) and Libya (12%).
The value of imports of fishery products rose by 33.9% to 207.4 MD in May 2025. Imported quantities also increased by 35.5%, reaching 31.7 thousand tons. Import prices decreased by 3.1% compared to the same month in 2024, amounting to TND6.5/Kg.
The imported quantities are intended for industrial processing (76.9%), market supply (22.7%), and fattening (0.4%).
