World Bank’s Representative in Congo Sylvie Dossou has announced that the bank will give Congo US$75 million to support the country’s water, electricity and urban development programme.
The announcement followed a meeting between Dossou and the Congolese Energy and Hydrology Minister Henri Ossébi.
Congo’s demand for electricity stands at about 600MW but it produces only 150 MW.
Only 45 per cent of the urban area and less than 15 per cent of the rural area are presently electrified.
The country ‘s objective is to reach 90 per cent electrification in urban area and 50 per cent of electrification in the rural area by early 2015.
