Fruit exports reach 34,643 tonnes by end of 2021

Exports of fruits, except melons, watermelons and strawberries, have reached about 34,634 tonnes until the end of 2021, with a value of 110.543 MD, against 22,846 tonnes, worth 60.856 MD during the previous season.
Exports saw a 51.6% growth in value and 81.6% in quantity, according to data of the National Office of Agriculture (ONAGRI).
These figures are explained by the rise in temperatures during several phases of fruit growth, causing the extension of the flowering period and the decrease in rainfall.
It also consists of alternating production for Maltese and the decrease and irregularity of the quantities of water used in irrigation in certain public irrigated perimeters, notably in Nabeul.
ONAGRI indicated that the supply of the domestic market in clementines, meski oranges, thomson and Maltese continues and that the rate of progress of the harvest has reached about 45%.
Exports of citrus fruits reached, until January 21, 2022, approximately 2,448 tonnes and a total value estimated at 6.606 MD, against 4,699 tonnes worth 11.040 MD during the same period of the last season, or a 47.9 % fall in terms of quantity and 40.9 % in value.
The harvest of dates saw a 7% decline, to reach 368 thousand tonnes during the season 2022-2021, against 345 thousand tonnes previously. The production of dates of the variety “Deglet Nour” has reached 305 thousand tonnes, an increase of 7.8%.
