Ghana daily minimumn wage up by 20 per cent

The Ghana government and the Trades Union Congress on Monday announced a 20 per cent increase in the daily minimum wage.

A communiqué released by the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee said the daily base pay was now 4.10 Ghana cedis, up from the 2010 base Pay of 3.42 Ghana cedis (US$1.00= 1.50 Ghana cedis).

The communiqué was signed by Mr George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for the government and Mr Kofi Asamoah, General Secretary of the TUC for organised labour.

The communiqué said the effective date of implementation of the new salary is 1 January, 2011 and payment would be effected at the end of September 2011
