IMF to conduct virtual staff mission to Tunisia from February 14 to 22

A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will conduct a virtual staff mission to Tunisia from February 14 to 22 to continue discussions with the Tunisian authorities on the set of reforms that will be initiated soon, in anticipation of the launch of a financial support programme, an official source told TAP news agency on Wednesday.

“The Fund team should hold virtual meetings with the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Economy and Planning, the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia and other ministers whose departments are concerned by the reforms to be implemented,” the same source added.

Tunisia is preparing to launch new negotiations with the Fund in order to conclude a new programme and mobilise the financial resources needed to complete its 2022 budget.

Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the IMF Jihad Azour said, in November 2021, technical discussions between the Fund’s staff and the Tunisian authorities are underway to consider launching a new financing programme for Tunisia.

“Discussions focus essentially on defining the country’s priorities, the challenges to be met and the reforms to be put in place in order to overcome the current crisis in the country,” he said.
