The Kenyan government has announced that domestic flights are set to resume at the country’s main airport, following the fire that gutted the arrival wing serving international passengers early Wednesday.
The fire at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the capital city of Nairobi forced the indefinite suspension of flights, while incoming flights were diverted to other airports.
But the local Daily Nation newspaper quoted State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu as saying domestic and cargo flights would resume Wednesday.
He however said the government was not in a position to give a clear timetable on international flights.
“We expect cargo and domestic services to resume this afternoon,” Mr Esipisu was quoted to have told reporters at the airport.
The police said there were no casualties from the huge inferno that enveloped a part of East Africa’s busiest airport starting from 5 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
But national carrier Kenya Airways said one staff and a passenger had ”slight smoke inhalation” and were taken to hospital ”for further investigation”.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has visited the airport, where the fire has largely being brought under control.
